The Making of the Godfather….

A new video is up about the making of the Godfather and the controversies behind the scenes.

The video delves into the challenges the filmmakers faced during production, most notably the resistance from the Mafia themselves.

Francis Ford Coppola wanted to film in Little Italy on location but could not get support from the local business thanks to the Italian American League, a mafia backed advocacy group. In the end the production agreed to remove the word “mafia” from the script and pay local merchants (who funneled the money to the mob).

As well, the studio pushed back at every decision along the way, from how it looked to where it would be projected.

Over time, the Godfather changed Hollywood forever and paved the way for a new style of movie and filmmaking style we still emulate today..
