Deadpool/Batman #1, One Year Later: It Was the Best-Selling Comic of 2025

A year ago this was a countdown post: mark your calendar, September 17, big crossover incoming. Now we know exactly how big. Deadpool/Batman #1 didn't just sell well. Per ICv2 sales data pulled from comic shop point-of-sale systems, it was the single best-selling comic book issue of all of 2025, full stop, ahead of every other release from either Marvel or DC that year. The Marvel side, written by Zeb Wells with art by Greg Capullo, sold out its first print run within about two weeks at some shops, according to retailer reporting at the time. The issue packed in four separate crossover stories: the Deadpool/Batman main event, a Daredevil/Green Arrow team-up from Kevin Smith and Adam Kubert, a Jeff the Land Shark/Krypto short from Kelly Thompson and Gurihiru, and a Captain America/Wonder Woman back-up. It marked one of the first real Marvel and DC intercompany crossovers in decades, and it landed. DC's counterpart, Batman/Deadpool #1, followed a few weeks later, and here's the interesting twist: several retailers and critics called it the better book story-wise, but it sold noticeably worse. One well-known shop owner reported selling through all 120 copies of the Marvel issue in two weeks, then reordering more of the DC issue on the strength of that demand, only to sell through about half of it. The takeaway from retailers wasn't that the concept fizzled. It was that the timing (Marvel's issue landing first and soaking up the initial hype) mattered as much as the story itself. Either way, a year out, this wasn't a flash sale that cooled the moment the racks were restocked. It closed out 2025 as the top seller industry-wide, and that kind of number tends to hold long-term collector interest rather than lose it.
