Matt Hollingsworth Calls for Boycott of Mark Millar’s Chrononauts

Eisner-winning colorist Matt Hollingsworth is urging comic fans to boycott the new Mark Millar’s Chrononauts Library Edition from Dark Horse Comics. Hollingsworth took to social media with a clear message: he wants no association with this re-release and will not receive royalties from it.

According to Hollingsworth, Mark Millar denied him royalties typically paid to colorists across the industry, stating, “I get royalties on almost everything I work on, including from big publishers, but not this—because Millar doesn’t consider colorists worth paying royalties to.” He only stayed on the project out of loyalty to artist Sean Murphy, who stepped up to pay him extra out of his own pocket.

Chrononauts, first released in 2015 and now owned by Netflix, has seen sequels and ongoing development for a feature film. Despite this, Hollingsworth maintains that fair payment and credit for colorists in comics is essential—especially when creators are building properties for major media adaptation.

Hollingsworth is currently working on titles like Thor, Carnage, and Gotham by Gaslight, and continues to write his own stories. He encourages fans to skip the Chrononauts Library Edition in solidarity with equitable treatment for comic book colorists.

What’s your take—should creators like Matt speak out when credit or pay falls short? Let us know in the comments!
